From 2022 onwards, the installation of IMD systems for domestic hot water is required in new multi-family buildings. For existing multi-family buildings, the requirement applies during renovations that include new installations of domestic hot water or a significant modification of the existing domestic hot water system. The processes during negotiations regarding the introduction of IMD water have been time-consuming due to the lack of a common basis to start from. With the new regulations as a foundation, the three parties (Property Owners, the Tenants' Association, and Sweden’s Public Housing Companies) believe and hope that the joint recommendation will streamline local negotiations.
Property Owners, the Tenants' Association, and Sweden’s Public Housing Companies have developed an overarching recommendation to facilitate the introduction of IMD water.
The recommendations include:
- How to ensure well-functioning domestic water systems.
- How to determine normal domestic water usage before introducing IMD water.
- Basis for rent adjustment in connection with the introduction of IMD water.
- Negotiation agreement, including handling of annual price changes.
- What information residents should receive before the introduction of IMD water.
Since June 1, 2022, a law on energy measurement in buildings regarding domestic hot water has come into effect. The law states that IMD systems must be installed when constructing new multi-family buildings from June 1, 2022.
