Västfastigheter provides premises for the Västra Götaland region, mainly offering premises for healthcare, but the company also owns and manages premises for museums, folk high schools, and agricultural high schools. Västfastigheter handles maintenance, operation, and service themselves and has a strong ambition to offer energy-efficient premises. In 2013, Västfastigheter was named Energy Advisor of the Year for its exemplary and determined work on energy efficiency.
The Challenge:
Västfastigheter has a strong energy ambition, and so far the commitment has yielded very good results. Over the past decade, they have managed to reduce energy consumption by 22 percent, and there are more goals. The current goal is to halve energy consumption by 2030, and to achieve this goal, among other things, PiiGAB’s products are used.
The Solution:
Previously, Västfastigheter used pulses but wanted to switch to a smoother and more efficient system to collect information about energy consumption. Västfastigheter also wanted the ability to store values and present the information. We delivered a solution that included both collection and storage of energy values as well as the ability to read them. Our converters PiiGAB M-Bus 810 and PiiGAB M-Bus 900 handle the collection of all measurement values together with PiiGAB M-Bus OPC Server/PiiGAB Explorer. The OPC Server then converts M-Bus to OPC standard while PiiGAB Quickloop stores the values and opens up the possibility to visualize the information.
Francisco Prieto, operations engineer and responsible for energy collection, sees the advantages of being able to store information locally with the possibility to communicate with multiple areas.
After implementation, Västfastigheter gained more control over their energy consumption and could start working more actively on energy efficiency. With the help of our products, deviations in energy consumption were found and could thus be followed up. They also began storing measurement values to be able to compare them; in this way, Västfastigheter could also start troubleshooting more effectively.
